The SCC is responsible for supervising the Screening operation under their specific area of responsibility at the Airport.  The SCC is responsible for the effective supervision of all Screening Officers, as well as being the first point of contact for the SSM/DSD for operational issues.  The SCC is responsible for the optimal performance of their team, as well as keeping the SSM apprised of daily performance, service delivery and compliance issues.

Responsibilities (these may differ according to class of Airport):

To deliver results through full responsibility and accountability for:

  • Overall supervision of the screening checkpoint ensuring full compliance and interpretation of SOPs while providing supervision and coaching of SOs 
  • Manages execution of daily schedules including assigning breaks, deploying SO’s and monitors staffing coverage with respect to OLA and gender requirements.
  • Manages passenger flow through the checkpoint; Opens and closes lines as necessary; Coordinates screening of passengers requiring additional screening
  • Apprising the SSM on a regular basis of daily performance and irregularities
  • Co-ordination and supervision of Quality Monitoring; Delivers daily Operational shift briefings
  • Delivers on the job training and coaching; Assists in all action plans concerning compliance
  • Assists stakeholders in emergency situations and breaches
  • Conducts OJT ( breaches scenarios, test bags etc.) in the absence of an SCT
  • Assists with situations including unruly passengers, special situations and screening exemptions of items or persons
  • Resolves minor passenger complaints
  • Informs airline of dangerous goods found in checked baggage and conducts Level V reconciliations (HBS)
  • Follows up on Uniform policy and ensures proper uniform standards
  • Delivers operational daily shift briefings and ensures bulletin and other communications are read and understood by SO.
  • Oversees completion of explosive detection trace alarms (EDT)
  • Manages XRT/LMS/APOMAS/BPSS where applicable
  • Ensures that screening equipment is properly tested and calibrated; Ensures corrective or troubleshooting procedures are executed if required
  • Works as a member of the screening line when required
  • Resolves RAIC validation failures and deals with expired or surrendered RAICs and invalid TC credentials for non-passengers
  • Responds when non-permitted items, including dangerous goods and prohibited items, are found.  Resolves situations involving undeclared firearms (HBS).

Administrative Duties:

  • Coordinates availability and usage of equipment and materials
  • Prepares, maintains and submits all applicable daily checkpoint paperwork
  • Completes and submits incident, equipment and operational reports (CATSA and Internal reports)

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pre-Board Security Screening Officer;
  • Completed all aspects of the National Training & Certification program;
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred;
  • Confident person with integrity and the ability to follow directives;
  • Previous supervisory experience;
  • Has a genuine interest in employee development, coaching and advancement;

Additional Requirements:

Applicant must:

  • Be willing to undergo extensive security & reference checks;
  • Be legally entitled to work within Canada;
  • Be 18 years of age;
  • Have a high school diploma (or equivalent);
  • Be willing to work on a shift basis including rotation shifts, holidays and weekends;
  • Be currently employed as a pre-board security screening officer (minimum twelve-months) and be in possession of all necessary aviation security certificates.
